Weave the Paths You Have Travelled,
One Layer at a Time

Begin at the centre.

Wrap the yarn around one stick,
then move towards the next direction.

Some colours will later be covered.
Some lines will remain visible on the outside.

Just like life,
every path we have travelled
becomes part of who we are today.

With Every Turn,
Discover Another Layer of Yourself

Eye of Life is a yarn-woven mandala
created with wooden sticks and yarn,
growing outwards from the centre.

Through repeated movements
and overlapping colours,
a few simple sticks gradually develop
depth, form and layers.

As we weave,
we can also look back and wonder:

What have the paths behind me left behind?
Where am I standing now?

Eye of Life does not rush to give you answers.

It simply creates a little space
to look more deeply,
and perhaps a little further ahead.

An Eye that Watches Over Life

This weaving tradition has its roots in South America.

In local traditions, wooden sticks and colourful yarn were woven into the form of an eye, carrying wishes of protection and wellbeing for children.

As each new layer extended outwards,
the eye grew wider,
just as a child's experience of the world gradually expanded.

Today, what we carry forward
is more than a weaving technique.

It is also the intention to pause,
to observe,
and to accompany life as it slowly grows.

Every Life
Begins Somewhere

The piece begins at the centre,
where two wooden sticks cross.

At first, the space is small.

There is only one strand of yarn,
one turn,
and the next direction to follow.

We may not know
what the finished piece will become,

just as we cannot see the entire path
when a new chapter of life begins.

But once the centre is in place,
we can slowly begin to move outwards.

Some Things from the Past Never Disappear.
They Simply Become a Deeper Layer.

New yarn wraps over the colours beneath it.

Round after round,
the appearance of the piece continues to change.

Some colours remain clearly visible.

Some appear only through small spaces.

Others can no longer be seen at all,
yet they continue to support
everything that comes after.

Our experiences in life can be like this too.

Not every story needs to remain
on the outermost layer.

But no part of the journey
has been wasted.

What Would You Like to Bring
into the Next Round of Your Life?

Sometimes we continue
with the colours already there.

Sometimes we want to introduce
something that has never appeared before.

Bright or quiet.
Familiar or unexpected.

Even colours that seem to conflict
may find a place together
in the next round.

Every choice changes the piece.

But no single choice
determines the shape of an entire life.

So there is no need to rush
to make the “right” choice.

Look at the yarn beside you
and ask yourself:

What would I like to carry with me
into the next round?

Life Does Not Have to Be Symmetrical
to Keep Growing

The sticks may not be perfectly even.

The yarn may sometimes be loose,
sometimes tight.

Halfway through,
we may realise that the piece is becoming
something we never expected.

We can make adjustments.

Or we can allow
a little imperfection to remain.

It may not ruin the piece at all.

Perhaps it simply reminds us
that life has never grown according to a ruler.

Some uneven places
are traces of where we have truly been.

Eye of Life does not ask you
to return to perfection.

It simply asks:

From where you are now,
how would you like to continue?

The Same Eye
Seeing More and More of the World

From a simple four-point structure
to more sticks, more layers,
and increasingly free forms and variations,

Eye of Life is not about
making the same piece again and again.

It is a creative journey
that gradually expands both inward and outward.

As our skills grow,
we discover more than new ways of weaving.

We begin to notice
our own choices, habits and rhythms.

And perhaps we begin to understand:

Growth is not simply about
making something more complex.

At every stage,
we can also come to know ourselves
a little better.

The World You See
Does Not Have to Look Like Anyone Else's

Some people love bold contrasts.

Some let their colours
flow gently from one to another.

Some weave intricate, detailed patterns.

Others prefer
a few quiet circles of yarn.

We arrive with different experiences,
so naturally,
we see different landscapes.

There is no need to weave
identical Eyes of Life.

Every piece can carry
its maker's own way of seeing the world.

Sometimes, a Journey
Can Begin by Opening a Book

Book Title: Mindful Art: Eye of Life

The book shares more than
the techniques of yarn weaving.

It also brings together
the story of Eye of Life,
its creative philosophy,
and the reflections that can emerge
with each new layer of yarn.

Pause on a page that speaks to you.

Read a few words.
Look at a piece.

Then pick up your sticks and yarn
and slowly weave your own understanding.

The book will not hurry you to finish.

It simply stays quietly beside you,

ready to accompany you back to the centre
whenever you are ready to begin.

Sometimes, It Is Easier to Begin
by Watching a Pair of Hands

Where should the yarn go next?

When it turns around the stick,
should it be a little looser
or a little tighter?

Some details are difficult to understand
from a finished piece alone.

In the online course,
you can follow each demonstration
step by step.

Pause whenever you need to.

Take another look,
then continue.

There is no one else's pace
you need to keep up with,

and no need to learn
every technique at once.

In your own time,
begin with the first round,

and let your hands
slowly remember the way home.

May You Have a Pair of Eyes
that See the World — and Yourself

When life moves too quickly,
we often keep moving forward
without noticing how far we have already come.

Then return to the centre
and slowly weave another round.

Notice the colours
that have stayed with you,

and leave a little space
for what has yet to come.

Eye of Life —
seeing life through every layer we weave.
Bring Eye of Life to Your Organization

When You Can See Your Own Path,
You Can Accompany Others in Seeing Theirs

Perhaps at first,
you simply wanted to weave
an Eye of Life with your own hands.

Then, little by little,
you may discover that these layers of yarn
can hold more than your own choices and experiences.

They can also create a little space
for someone else to pause
and look at their life again.

If you wish,
you can take the next step
from creator to facilitator,

and bring this journey of
focus, exploration and discovery
to more people.

About Eye of Life

Eye of Life was created by Carmen Lo, founder of Mindful Art Academy.

Inspired by the traditional South American weaving form Si'kuli, Eye of Life develops the practice into a structured creative system that progresses from simple forms to increasingly intricate techniques and structures.

Through colour, wooden sticks and rhythmic, repetitive weaving, makers are invited to focus on the present moment while exploring the layers, choices and changes that emerge through the creative process.

As the work grows outwards from its centre, each piece becomes a unique expression of the maker's own experience and way of seeing the world.
